All incoming international graduate students whose first language is not English and who are pursuing a Ph.D., M.A., M.S., M.F.*, M.E.M.*, M.P.P., or M.A.T. degree are required to take a writing and speaking exam administered through the Graduate School to determine placement in English language courses. You are exempt from this requirement if you are a non-degree student.

The exam consists of two writing tasks: 1) a summary and response to a reading and 2) an essay. Grading criteria are similar to those for the TWE. You must bring picture ID to the exam.
